CLYMPING DOG SANCTUARY 2011 NEWSLETTER
Welcome - to this our 17th Newsletter.
As the long days of summer slowly begin to leave us and the quieter shorter days of winter beckon, I am drawn to sharing with you all that has happened with CDS over the last year, in our annual Newsletter.
In the early part of this year we were able to welcome Ann Franzen as a new Trustee. The Trustees work behind the scenes ensuring the Sanctuary is running smoothly and efficiently. Lady Sarah Clutton informed us that she would like to step down as a committee member but remain as a Trustee and we thank her for all the time and support she has given us over past years.
Linda Wellard notified the committee that she had decided to hand over the reins of Fundraiser to another committee member and we would all like to thank Linda for the many hours she gave so willingly to organising the numerous fund raising activities throughout each year. She did a splendid job. As one door closes another opens and we were delighted to welcome Carla Dudley as the new Fundraiser and my goodness already she has shown her capabilities of networking and rousing people to become involved with CDS. More on our fundraising activities a little later.
The caring and re-homing of dogs continues and happily homes are quickly found for our friends. So far this year we have found homes for 90+ dogs, this is wonderful for us, knowing that there are so many kind and caring people out there looking to give a home to these lovely animals. Lorraine at New Carleton Kennels, along with her `girls' do a grand job of looking after the dogs during their stay and also in their re-homing. Dee continues to work behind the scenes on our website ensuring that all those visiting the site can see (by photographs) the dog/s waiting for new homes along with a brief description of their characters. It is hoped that shortly the website will be updated and that with this revamp it will enable us to give more information about each of the dogs. Keep a look out for this.
Once again our gratitude goes out to you all - for being a part of the Sanctuary. For caring, loving and giving a home to these loyal friends of ours.
FUNDRAISING
The 1st fundraising event this year was the Dog Walk held on Sunday 26 June. To all those who took part and helped to raise much needed funds - THANK YOU so much. To those of you who didn't get along, I'm afraid you missed a fabulous day. It began with a thick sea mist enveloping the coast line of Sussex which within half an hour of setting off had cleared and a beautiful sunny day followed. We walked the dogs from New Carleton Kennels , along the riverside to Littlehampton stopping briefly for a `watering' at The Boathouse. We then proceeded to the Black Horse at Clymping where the Landlord had kindly allowed us to use the large verandah at the rear of the pub to gather, eat and drink. Many of us stayed for some time enjoying chatting with each other before setting off back to our homes or the kennels. This event raised over £750!! Thank you and well done to all - it was a long walk :-).
We have also had our usual successful street collections throughout the year.
The Summer Dog Show was held only last weekend on Sunday 18 September. Sadly due to family commitments I was unable to be there and as yet I have not heard how it went. I do know however, that the weather was very `hit and miss' and I can only hope that the `misses' were during our Dog Show!! This is always a most enjoyable social event with many friends 2-legged as well as 4-legged getting together.
RAFFLE TICKETS for the XMAS FAIR
We are pleased to inform you that raffle tickets for the Raffle of our forthcoming Xmas Fair on 10 December are now on sale at New Carleton Kennels, plus also from committee members and friends. If you would like to sell some for us please speak to Lorraine on 01903 883116.
XMAS FAIR Saturday 10 December 10-12.00 Norfolk Centre Arundel
Plans are now being made and implemented as to how we can make our Xmas Fair bigger and better than in the past. We generally have a really good turn out and we invite you all to join us for an early mince pie/wish and some Christmas gift shopping. So please make a note in your diaries as I am sure you will find many Xmas delights available in the form of gifts, plants, cakes, tombola, raffle etc. We very much look forward to seeing you there.
EMAIL ADDRESSES
Once again I appeal to you all to please send me your email addresses, thus making the circulation of our Newsletter much more financially frugal.
Once again we on the committee would like to thank you all for the wonderful support you so generously give the Sanctuary. We continue to need your donations, support and help with the fundraising activities. If you have any spare time and would like to join us you can ring me Teresa on 01243 828047 or perhaps you might like to walk one of the Sanctuary dogs now and again - in which case give Lorraine a ring on 01903 883116
Do keep in touch with us, we like to hear how you and your dogs are keeping.
So from us all here at Clymping dog Sanctuary we wish you and your families an enjoyable few months leading up to Christmas and the NewYear of 2012.
